Pelicans Expected To Follow Saints' Lead In Moving Training Camp To Greenbrier

The Pelicans "will host training camp" at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., according to sources cited by Scott Kushner of the Baton Rouge ADVOCATE. The Greenbrier, which also hosted Saints training camp for the past two summers, "doesn’t currently contain a basketball facility." But sources said that the "long-term plan is to add courts and goals into the indoor tennis structure." It is "not certain if that will be ready for this upcoming camp." The Saints and coach Sean Payton "have often praised The Greenbrier for their setup, which spurred" Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry and GM Dell Demps "to look at the property last week." Former Saints Exec Dir of Communications Doug Miller is now The Greenbrier VP/Sales, Marketing & Promotions, and is "helping to engineer the potential deal" (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 8/13). In New Orleans, Jimmy Smith cites a source as saying that the official announcement "should be forthcoming in the near future." Gentry and Demps "toured" The Greenbrier facility last Friday with Pelicans and Saints Exec VP & GM Mickey Loomis and Owner Tom Benson (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 8/13).
