Tony Romo Uses Artistic License In Developing Character For NFL Sunday Ticket Spot

The character that Cowboys QB Tony Romo plays in the latest ad campaign for the NFL Sunday Ticket package turned out "even creepier than the folks at DirecTV wanted," according to Jon Machota of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Romo plays "Arts-and-Craftsy Tony Romo" in the ad, and he said in an "Around the NFL" podcast, “They had the plan for the situation and obviously I agreed to it. ... They wanted me to be just a little bit less than what you saw, but I ended up feeling as though this guy like lived by himself and he doesn’t interact with human beings very often and I felt like, ‘OK, there’s this camera crew in this guy’s house and now he’s really excited, but he’s a little weirded-out by everybody.’ It just kind of felt that way when I was on set, so I just took on that role a little bit. It kind of made it into what it is and Arts-and-Craftsy became a little paranoid Arts-and-Craftsy. It was pretty good" (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/6).

BUSINESS IN THE FRONT, PARTY IN THE BACK: The CHICAGO TRIBUNE reported Bears LB Jared Allen "explains the fate of his famous mullet and challenges unsuspecting bystanders in a battle of game-show wits" in a pair of comedy videos for hotel chain Courtyard. Actor Ben Schwartz in one spot drills Allen with "nonsensical questions and challenges, such as a 'scare me with a stare.'" In the other video, Allen "plays hotel guests in a 'Family Feud'-style contest and challenges others to a modified game of rock-paper-scissors" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 8/6).
