Kraft Family Calling On Goldman Sachs To Help Finance Revolution Soccer Venue In Boston

The Kraft family, which owns the Revolution, is working with Goldman Sachs to "finance a soccer stadium in Boston," according to Adam Vaccaro of BOSTON.com. Reps of the Krafts "most recently met with city officials" on July 8. Goldman Sachs in the past has "worked with the Krafts to help finance Gillette Stadium," and also has been involved in venue financing for the Magic and NBA Kings. Since last year, the Krafts "have had their eyes on a parcel of land owned by the city on the South Boston/South End border." The Revolution also have in the past "looked at sites in Roxbury, Revere, and Somerville." A city spokesperson said that the July 8 meeting "was attended" by Boston CFO David Sweeney and Mayor Martin Walsh’s chief of staff, Dan Koh. Vaccaro noted Goldman Sachs "has been working with the Krafts on the stadium plan" at least since a December meeting. The city "received a packet of documents prepared by Goldman Sachs at the July 8 meeting." A section of that packet "about how the new Yankee Stadium was paid for" was left "un-redacted" in documents made available. Anything specific about "how Boston or the Krafts would pay for a soccer stadium was removed" prior to the documents being made available (BOSTON.com, 8/5).

WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION IS IN: In Miami, Barry Jackson noted the Marlins have "numerous contract stipulations with Miami-Dade County that could make it more difficult" for David Beckham’s group to strike an MLS stadium deal next to Marlins Park. But Marlins President David Samson "made clear this week that the Marlins will not be an impediment to any deal." Samson said the Marlins are "always open to conversation and ... would work with" Beckham and his partner, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, "very closely to make sure they are successful and the Marlins are successful." Jackson noted among the rights the Marlins were given by Miami-Dade County include Beckham not being able to "sell stadium naming rights" until Marlins Park does. The soccer stadium also "cannot reflect light toward Marlins Park," and the Marlins "get to review all soccer stadium architectural plans and leases." No soccer ads "may conflict with a major Marlins sponsor." Soccer stadium construction "may not interfere with baseball from two hours before a game or event to one hour after," and the Marlins "get first choice of dates and can't schedule any games at home from March 15 to Nov. 15 until the Marlins choose their dates." Soccer games also "cannot begin until four hours after a baseball game ends." There also are "several other stipulations" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 8/6).
