Audience Analysis: ESPN Has Its Lowest Men's Wimbledon Final, But Serena's Win Up

ESPN finished with 2.02 million viewers for Novak Djokovic' win over Roger Federer at Wimbledon on Sunday, marking the net's lowest men's final audience since the event moved to ESPN in '12. Sunday's four-set match was down from 2.38 million viewers last year for the same matchup, but that went five sets. Meanwhile, ESPN on Saturday drew 1.43 million viewers for Serena Williams' win over Garbine Muguruza in the women's finale, almost doubling the audience for last year's Petra Kvitova-Eugenie Bouchard final and marking the best women's final at Wimbledon since Williams defeated Agnieszka Radwanska in '12 (1.67 million viewers).

GOLD RUSH: FS1 drew 1.09 million viewers for the U.S-Panama CONCACAF Gold Cup match on Monday, marking the net's best soccer audience outside of a FIFA Women's World Cup match. Monday's game bested the 1.04 million viewers for U.S-Haiti last Friday. By comparison, Univision drew 1.28 million viewers for U.S.-Haiti. Telecasts involving the Mexican national team are doing even better on Univision. The net averaged 3.75 million viewers for Mexico-Guatemala last Sunday night and drew another 1.4 million viewers for the cable TV simulcast on Univision Deportes. Univision also drew 3.2 million viewers for Mexico-Cuba on July 9, with the cable net simulcast drawing another 1.29 million viewers.

LAND OF A THOUSAND LAKERS: NBA TV drew 277,000 viewers for Lakers-T'Wolves last Friday, marking the net's best Summer League game audience on record. Overall, NBA TV's Summer League game viewership is on record pace and up 14% from the same point last year. Meanwhile, Time Warner Cable SportsNet drew a 1.45 local rating in L.A. for the Lakers-T'Wolves game, marking the RSN's best Lakers Summer League audience on record.

MILWAUKEE MILESTONE: NBCSN drew 532,000 viewers for the Verizon IndyCar Series race from Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, marking IndyCar's best cable TV audience since the debut of the Baltimore Grand Prix in '11 drew 591,000 viewers. It also is up 66% from last year's race in Milwaukee. Combined with the previous week's race from Auto Club Speedway, IndyCar has now drawn back-to-back cable TV audiences of over half a million viewers for the first time since '11.

NOTES: NBCSN drew 3.22 million viewers for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race from Kentucky Speedway on Saturday, marking the lowest audience for the event since its debut on the schedule in '11....ESPN drew 799,000 viewers for its debut Premier Boxing Champions telecast on Saturday night, up 110% from ESPN2's average this past season for "Friday Night Fights." The main event featuring Keith Thurman-Luis Collazo averaged over 1 million viewers....Golf Channel from Monday to Wednesday had its best viewership yet for coverage from the British Open. "Live From The Open Championship" set a record on Wednesday with 232,000 viewers. Meanwhile, Golf Channel's coverage of the World Golf HOF induction ceremony on Monday drew 156,000 viewers, marking a new record.
