People & Personalities: Should Adam Schefter Have Shared JPP's Medical Chart?

In Philadelphia, John Smallwood writes ESPN's Adam Schefter "did not think anything was morally wrong about posting an image" on Twitter earlier this week of Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul's medical chart, but the move "created a firestorm about whether Schefter did the moral, ethical and legal thing." As a journalist, Schefter's goal is to "obtain information," and "from that standpoint, Schefter simply did his job." The debate is not whether he "did an illegal thing," but about whether he "did the right thing." Smallwood: "Other than sensationalism, I see no purpose in posting an image of the medical records" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 7/10).

BIRDS OF A WHITE SOCK: In Chicago, Colleen Kane notes White Sox broadcasters Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Steve Stone "joined Twitter on Thursday," and the duo "each sent out a tweet before announcing their new handles on CSN" prior to yesterday's game against the Blue Jays. About two hours after the announcement, Harrelson "had more than 6,600 followers, while Stone had more than 2,700" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/10).

BRU-NO MORE: In Philadelphia Rob Tornoe noted WIP-FM "Innes & Bruno Show" co-host Tony Bruno earlier this week announced that he "is leaving the show immediately and retiring from radio." Bruno in a statement said, "The format and industry in general no longer provide me joy and satisfaction." Sources said that Bruno's decision "came as a complete shock." His "surprise resignation caps off days of speculation over his absence from the show" (PHILLY.com, 7/8). Meanwhile, ESPN Radio 97.5 Philadelphia's Pat Gallen announced that he will be "moving to CBS3 as a Sports Anchor/Reporter starting next week" (TWITTER.com, 7/10).

HOLY NOLAN: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick writes FS1 "has what it clearly wanted" in Katie Nolan -- a "young woman to attract and excite a 'young adult male audience' no older, wiser or better adjusted than 14-year-olds on a mission to spray paint their junior high." Nolan "is a professional TV vandal, hired for her willingness and eagerness to show dopey, desensitized guys that she, too, can act like a pig." From the Women’s World Cup on the night before the final, she "declared, with a smug smile, 'Happy Fourth of July, bitches!'" Now that crude "has become the common substitute for legit humor, it was good enough!" Mushnick: "No talent needed, no upside pursued" (N.Y. POST, 7/10).

NOTES: San Jose Mercury News sports reporter David Pollak on Thursday announced he is retiring "after 44 uninterrupted years in the newspaper business." Pollak has worked the Sharks beat the last eight seasons. He split duties last year with Curtis Pashelka, who now will take over the team on a permanent basis (MERCURYNEWS.com, 7/9)....Georgia Tech football radio analyst Roddy Jones "has joined the Raycom Sports broadcast team for the network’s weekly telecast of ACC football games" as a sideline reporter. Tim Brant "will handle full play-by-play duties," while Dave Archer "begins his sixth season as analyst for ACC telecasts" (AJC.com, 7/9)....ESPN's Cassidy Hubbarth, who has hosted the net's "NBA Tonight" and "NBA Coast 2 Coast" studio shows, is expanding her role to include hosting "Baseball Tonight" across several dates in July (THE DAILY).
