KFC Unveils Col. Sanders Statue At Kentucky Speedway As Part Of Sponsorship

KFC on Thursday "unveiled a statue of Col. Harland Sanders bolted to a seat in Turn 4" of the Kentucky Speedway grandstand as part of the Yum Brands-owned QSR's sponsorship with the racetrack, according to Jonathan Lintner of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. The statue of Col. Sanders, the QSR's mascot, is located in a section of the grandstands that are painted in KFC's red and white colors, "unlike the rest of the blue and yellow stands." KFC is sponsoring the No. 35 car driven by Cole Whitt in Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Quaker State 400 at the track, and Whitt will be wearing an "all-white drivers suit -- and black tie -- paying homage to Sanders" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 7/10). KFC plans to activate its sponsorship Saturday night with a card stunt during lap 25 of the race. Fans will be asked to stand up and hold up a card that will create the image of Sanders. Additionally, four fans sitting in the KFC section will be able to receive an upgraded track experience that includes access to the official fan zone and pit crew area for the day (KFC).
