MLBAM, MasterCard To Bring Apple Pay System To Cincinnati For All-Star Game

MLBAM, with the aid of league sponsor MasterCard, will have the Apple Pay mobile payment system available at Great American Ball Park and the Duke Energy Convention Center for next week’s All-Star Game activities in Cincinnati. Continuing a broader initiative that began during last season’s World Series in K.C. and S.F., users of the technology will be eligible for various rewards including autographed merchandise and prepaid debit cards. MasterCard will continue to use its “Priceless Surprises” marketing tagline it debuted last year. Apple Pay is available to users of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch and relies on near-field communication technology and pre-loaded credit card information. The contactless system in early deployments has generated marked reductions in wait times at concession stands. MasterCard’s activation around Apple Pay during the All-Star Game represents some of the first major promotion of the technology at Great American Ball Park.
