NWSL Teams Continue Seeing Ticket-Sales Surge Amid Women's World Cup Fever

The NWSL Boston Breakers "are hoping to ride excitement around the U.S. women’s national team’s FIFA World Cup win," as sales over the last few days have put the club "close to selling out the 4,000 tickets each for its last home matches" in August, according to Donna Goodison of the BOSTON HERALD. Breakers GM Lee Billiard: "We’re reaping the benefits. They want to see these players play in their backyard. They saw how exciting women’s soccer is, and they want to see a live game. ... The last 72 hours, we’ve seen a significant increase in ticket sales." Prior to the World Cup win, the Breakers "averaged about 2,500 tickets sold per game." Billiard knows that the momentum "will fade, and it will be back to the Breakers ... to bring in more fans by providing a 'good product and experience so they continue to come back.'" That "includes promoting its beer garden for parents, interactive zone for youth soccer players, and the post-game autograph alley where players sign autographs and pose for photos with fans" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/9).

DASH'S GOOD LOOKS: In Houston, Jose de Jesus Ortiz reports USWNT players Meghan Klingenberg, Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian, who all also play for the NWSL Houston Dash, "will be honored" at the Dash's home game on Sunday night against the Chicago Red Stars. For the first time since the Dash's inaugural game last year, the upper bowl at BBVA Compass Stadium "will be opened for a Dash game." Limited general-admission and 100-level seats remain in the lower bowl for Sunday's match, "prompting the Dash to open some 200-level sections in the upper bowl." Klingenberg: "We're going to be at the game on Sunday, but we're not going to play because it's going to be a little too much" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/9).
