NHL Franchise Notes: Senators Fans Underwhelmed By 25th Anniversary Logo

THE HOCKEY NEWS’ Jared Clinton noted Senators fans are “displeased” with the franchise’s choice of commemorative logo for their upcoming 25th anniversary. The logo itself, which is “simply the current logo with text underneath, was roundly met with criticism online.” The mark could have included "some flair and harkened back to the past of the club," but instead is "pretty simplistic.” The font choice is “puzzling, to be sure,” and the “gradient texture on the roman numerals leaves something to be desired.” However, this is a secondary logo, and it likely only will be worn "as a patch on the jerseys in 2015-16 and maybe associated with some merchandise.” The Senators “likely won’t be trotting out onto the ice with this strewn across their chests” (THEHOCKEYNEWS.com, 7/7).

LOOKING FOR SOME ANSWERS: KNXV-ABC's Nohelani Graf reported Coyotes fans last night "got the chance to grill" management in a town hall event "hours after legal depositions" in the club's lawsuit against Glendale. Many fans urged the owners to "move the team back to downtown Phoenix." President & CEO Anthony LeBlanc said that "buying an arena ... isn't on the table right now," adding that changing cities "isn't easy." LeBlanc: "Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix has an anchor with a full schedule." He "remains adamant the team will not move out of state" (ABC15.com, 7/7).

GETTING EVERYTHING LINED UP: BLOOMBERG NEWS’ Scott Soshnick noted the Penguins, whose owners are “exploring a sale” of the team, “retained Paul J. Taubman’s PJT Partners as an adviser.” Penguins co-Owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle last month “retained Morgan Stanley to advise on a possible sale of the team.” Among PJT Partners’ employees is Don Cornwell, the “former Morgan Stanley banker who advised on the sale” of the Bills and WME’s acquisition last year of IMG Worldwide (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 7/7).
