Sources: 76ers Unlikely To Face Punishment Over NBPA's Claim Of Salary-Cap Tampering

The 76ers are "unlikely to face any punishment" after a report surfaced yesterday that the NBPA was investigating the team "for possible violations of the 'spirit'" of the CBA, according to sources cited by Bob Ford of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. A source said, "They did not violate any rules, just the spirit of the rule. It's something the union will look to change." Ford notes the Sixers "were way under the [salary cap] floor until late-season acquisitions." By picking up those players, the Sixers "added their full-season salaries to the cap while paying only a fraction of the salaries." Why the union would make a point of what is "clearly not a violation is a good question." It might just be a way of "expressing unhappiness over how the Sixers conduct their business" and how GM Sam Hinkie "treats players contractually" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 6/25).

BIG BEN: The Inquirer's Keith Pompey said of the 76ers’ new Benjamin Franklin alternate logo, “The alternate logo, I guess is nice. … They're trying to do things differently. If you look at the other uniforms, what they did is they took from all the great Sixers teams at different eras and they combined them. The Franklin is nice, it's cute. It doesn't intimidate teams. You can give them a history lesson, but other than that, it's just something nice and cute to look at” (“Inside College Basketball,” CBSSN, 06/22).
