NFL Panthers' Richardson Steps Up To Plate, Donates $100K For Charleston Shooting Victims

NFL Panthers Owner JERRY RICHARDSON "donated $100,000 to the families of the nine victims killed in Wednesday night’s Charleston shooting, and to the church where the shootings occurred," according to Jonathan Jones of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. Richardson in a letter dated Friday "sent $10,000 to each family of the victims for funeral costs and another $10,000 to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church as a memorial honoring the victims." Panthers Dir of Communications STEVEN DRUMMOND in a text message wrote, "We don’t want to comment on the specifics of the donation, but know our hearts are one with those who grieve the loss of these individuals" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 6/20). ESPN.com's David Newton noted Richardson "made it clear when he founded the Panthers," who played their first season in '95, that they "represented North and South Carolina." He "built the stadium in Charlotte, but holds training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, each year" (ESPN.com, 6/20).
