The Magic promoted Senior VP & CRO CHARLIE FREEMAN to COO, a new position within the organization. Freeman, a longtime Magic exec and '12 SBJ/SBD “Forty Under 40” winner, has held the CRO role since '12. He reports to Magic CEO ALEX MARTINS. The team also promoted Senior VP/Corporate Partnerships & Premium Sales MICHAEL FORDE to Exec VP/Sales and VP/Business Strategy ANTHONY PEREZ to Exec VP/Strategy. The team’s CRO duties will be absorbed among the three execs. Meanwhile, Hornets Senior VP/Sales & Database Marketing FLAVIL HAMPSTEN is leaving the franchise to join the Sharks as Exec VP and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer. Hampsten begins his new job in mid-July and will report to Sharks COO JOHN TORTORA. Hampsten’s job is a newly created position for the franchise. The Sharks used Turnkey Sports & Entertainment as the search firm to fill the job. Hampsten, an SBJ/SBD “Forty Under 40” winner this year, has worked for the Hornets since '10 and played a key role in the team’s rebranding. The Hornets have not yet named Hampsten’s replacement (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

CAMPUS TOURS: Michigan State Univ. announced a one-year contract extension for AD MARK HOLLIS (DETROIT NEWS, 6/18)....Virginia Tech Senior Associate AD SHARON MCCLOSKEY's last day was June 5. She "served at her college alma mater for 31 years, working her way up from receptionist in the football office to the athletic department’s No. 2 administrator." She also "twice served as interim AD" (ROANOKE.com, 6/17)....The Univ. of South Dakota promoted Senior Associate AD/External Relations DAVID WILLIAMS to Deputy AD, Associate AD/Development JON SCHEMMEL to Senior Associate AD/Development, Associate AD/Compliance & Senior Woman Administrator JAMIE OYEN to Senior Associate AD and Assistant AD/Administration JEANETTE HUBERT to Associate AD/Business & Finance. Senior Associate AD/Internal Relations JAMES BANDY has taken a position within the school's Office of Academic Affairs (USD)....Radford Univ. Assistant AD/Communications TOM GALBRAITH "has stepped down" to become Simpson Univ. AD (ROANOKE.com, 6/17).

EXECS: The Dolphins named NBA Senior VP/Content & Business Affairs MYLES PISTORIUS Senior VP & General Counsel. He will report directly to team President & CEO TOM GARFINKEL and be responsible for all legal affairs for the club and Sun Life Stadium (Dolphins)....SMG-managed Intrust Bank Arena named the Coleman Company Account Service Associate KANDACE WALTON Sales Manager (Intrust Bank Arena)....The National Athletic Trainers' Association named Fresno State Univ. Department of Kinesiology Chair & Athletic Training Education Program Dir SCOTT SAILOR President, replacing JIM THORTON. NATA also named Iowa State Univ. Associate AD/Sports Medicine & Dir of Sports Medicine MARK COBERLEY and Widener Univ. Assistant Professor of Physical Education AJ DUFFY to its BOD (NATA).
