Audience Analysis: U.S. Open Coverage From Chambers Bay Pays Off For Golf Channel

FS1 drew 3.52 million viewers for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400 from Michigan Int’l Speedway last Sunday, despite the event having four rain-induced red flags. The audience, which excludes the rain delays, marks the cable net’s 11th best telecast on record and drove FS1 to its seventh-best total-day audience on record. TNT last year drew 4.25 million viewers for the same race.

DRIVE TIME: Golf Channel on Wednesday averaged 133,000 viewers for the window that encompassed "Morning Drive” and “Golf Central Live From The U.S. Open,” leading the net to its most-viewed Wednesday of U.S. Open week on record. Meanwhile, Golf Channel on Tuesday averaged 118,000 viewers for the same window, leading it to its most-viewed Tuesday of the U.S. Open on record. The same window on Monday averaged 88.000 viewers, which was Golf Channel’s second-best Monday from the U.S. Open on record.

NOTES: ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU averaged 367,000 viewers for four days worth of coverage from the NCAA men’s and women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 10-13. That figure is the best audience since the event first began tracking audience records in ’09….ESPN2 averaged278,000 viewers for its WNBA opening doubleheader last Sunday, up from 213,000 viewers for the lone opener last year.

The charts below lists final audience figures from recent sports telecasts.
