Angels Ticketing Exec Resigns In Wake Of Published Comments On Sales Strategies

Angels VP/Marketing & Ticket Sales ROBERT ALVARADO "resigned Wednesday," two weeks after he was quoted by the L.A. Times and Orange County Register in articles "exploring the Angels’ decline in attendance this season," according to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. TIMES. Angels VP/Communications TIM MEAD said of Alvarado, "He made a personal decision to resign from the organization. We wish him the best in his future endeavors." Team Owner ARTE MORENO "was known to be displeased by particular comments Alvarado made in the articles," in which Alvarado "was quoted discussing the ticketing strategies of the Dodgers, which angered the Dodgers" (L.A. TIMES, 6/18). In California, Pedro Moura notes Alvarado in his published comments indicated that the Angels "were content to sell higher-priced tickets to higher-income fans." He also had said that the Dodgers "focused more on selling season tickets to brokers and wholesalers" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 6/18).
