A civil-rights complaint against the Univ. of Minnesota filed on behalf of the men's and women's track teams claims that the $190M Athletes Village project set to break ground in September "violates federal gender equity laws." The complaint states that "the project 'discriminates on the basis of sex' because it will temporarily leave the school's track teams without an outdoor facility and ultimately move them off the main campus." The complaint "perpetuates a recent pattern of favoring men's sports" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 6/12).

NAMES: NASCAR driver DALE EARNHARDT JR. on Monday "will fly to Germany in hopes of tracing his family's lineage, which dates there to more than three centuries ago." President JIM TRESSEL was announced Wednesday as a member of Ohio State Univ.’s Varsity “O” HOF class of ’15.
