Georgetown Univ.'s New Basketball Court Design Unveiled, Features Kente-Cloth Pattern

Georgetown Univ. yesterday announced that the winning entry in its month-long, basketball court design contest "harkens back to the Allen Iverson era" with a "kente-cloth pattern that appears in the lanes at both ends of the court, similar to the trim introduced" on GU's jerseys in '94, according to Scott Allen of the WASHINGTON POST. Former GU swimmer Kevin Rieffel, who graduated in '06, "submitted the winning design and won a pair of season tickets." The court "features a slightly larger block ‘G’ at center court." The word “Hoyas” will "remain on each side of the court, while the word 'Georgetown' on both baselines will be changed from gray to the same color and pattern as the wood floor" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/9).

CREATING A (GREEN) MONSTER: SPORTING NEWS' Kami Mattioli noted Manhattan College "unveiled a new court design plan on Monday that features plenty" of the school's brand of green, which is the way school AD Noah LeFevre "likes it." LeFevre in a statement said, "We want to own the color green. How facilities appear matter[s] and I am happy with the way this important component turned out." Mattioli noted it appears that the new flooring in Draddy Gymnasium "will affectionately be referred to as the 'Green Monster'" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 6/9).
