Ortiz, Gronkowski Star In Dunkin' Donuts Ad, Singing, Riding Tandem Bike, Playing Wiffle Ball

Red Sox DH David Ortiz and Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski yesterday got in "on the summer hit single game with the release of a music video for a song that Dunkin' Donuts is calling 'Sippin'" and promotes to QSR's Iced Coffee, according to Phil Perry of CSNNE.com. Both players are "longtime spokesmen for Dunkin' Donuts, and they filmed the video as they spat their lyrical masterpiece poolside." Bouncing around "like a couple of caffeinated pre-teens, the two are seen pedaling a stationary tandem bicycle, playing backyard baseball with a water balloon, and generally rocking out to a song that sounds as though it may have been written just seconds before the shoot was scheduled to begin" (CSNNE.com, 6/8). In Boston, Jack Newsham reports Ortiz and Gronkowski "have recorded four songs" for Dunkin' Donuts. The lyrics for the first one -- "'summer time, super-nice, everything’s better with Dunkin’ Iced' -- aren’t exactly inspired, and Big Papi and Gronk’s voices are auto-tuned beyond recognition." A Dunkin’ spokesperson said that the song "will be available to download for free" on Thursday (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/9). In Massachusetts, Nick O'Malley noted the video includes Ortiz "chilling with a wiffle ball bat and performing a solo with a straw, and Gronkowski wearing oversized shades and Gronk-spiking a water balloon" (MASSLIVE.com, 6/8). NESN.com's Sam Galanis wrote the music video "is pretty great," as it includes the two athletes hanging by the pool and partaking in "all sorts of summer fun" (NESN.com, 6/8). YAHOO SPORTS' Sam Cooper wrote the "first thing I notice, besides the enormous sunglasses, is that both of these guys can carry a tune pretty well." Cooper: "I also really need to see these guys riding a tandem bike around Boston" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 6/8). In DC, Cindy Boren writes the ad "will haunt your subconscious" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/9).
