AFL Las Vegas Outlaws Face Myriad Issues In First Year, Reorganize Ownership Group

The AFL Las Vegas Outlaws are "suffering from growing pains on and off the field," as their ownership group is reorganizing with the business side of the operation having "failed to measure up," according to Steve Carp of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. There were "rumors that the team was on the verge of suspending operations." But co-Owner and GM Bob Hewko said that that "wasn’t the case." Hewko, who along with co-Owners Vince Neil and Mark Daniels bought out fellow co-Owner Sohrob Farudi, said, "It's an adjustment in the ownership group, and we are in this for the long haul." Hewko said that Farudi was "overseeing the team’s business operations as well as its marketing and promotion efforts." Carp noted the team is "struggling to attract fans," as figures from the Thomas & Mack Center show total attendance for the first four games "was 15,891, an average of 3,973." Attendance has "diminished with each home game." Some employees "reportedly hadn’t been paid, and money is owed to some vendors," including the Thomas & Mack Center (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 6/7).
