Boston Globe To Create New Awards Program For Best Of Boston, New England Sports

A new sports award program called The Globies "will honor the best of Boston and New England sports," according to Matt Pepin of the BOSTON GLOBE. The Globe will put on the awards, which will be presented by Mercedes-Benz. The first award ceremony will be Oct. 6 at the Boston House of Blues. Awards will be handed out "in a variety of categories, including MVPs of the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics and Revolution, the Boston Pride Award, Community Hero, and Best Female Athlete." Nominees and winners "will be chosen by the Globe sports department." Fan voting will be held "on a web page dedicated to the event and will be considered by the judges in making their final decisions." The winners of the Fan Favorite and Athlete of the Year awards "will be left entirely up to the fans via online voting" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/4).
