Boston '24 Withholding Some Documents From Public Just Days After Vow For Transparency

Less than a week after "pledging a new commitment to transparency," Boston '24 organizers are "refusing to make public key documents outlining the political and budget support needed to land" the Summer Games, according to Craig Douglas of the BOSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL. The group’s formal proposal to host the Games "included six separate chapters, two of which have never been made available to the public in un-redacted form." The chapters, "titled 'Political Support' and 'Bid Budget,' were part of the city’s successful pitch to represent" the USOC. The group’s "refusal to make public all of the book’s un-redacted chapters comes less than a week after" Boston '24 CEO Richard Davey "publicly vowed to take a more open and transparent process as it revises its initial bid to host the Games." Boston '24 COO Erin Murphy in an e-mail wrote, "When information was released in January, we were clear that proprietary data would be redacted for competitive purposes and we stand by that decision. Our focus now is on the development of updated plans that reflect the significant input from community stakeholders and we will be releasing them by the end of June. Those plans will include financing and budget models that will be made publicly available and will reflect Boston 2024’s vision for privately funded games" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/3).
