Warriors' Lacob Proving To Be "Relentless" In Years Since Being Booed Off Court

Warriors co-Owner Joe Lacob "hasn't been in front of the Warriors crowd" since he was "booed off the floor three years ago, and he won't go back until there's a championship trophy in his hands," according to Tim Kawakami of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. But Lacob said that he "isn't focused on past difficulties and embarrassments." Warriors Assistant GM Kirk Lacob said of his dad, "I don't think he thinks about it as redemption in any sense like that. I think the booing thing just adds ... it's just another cool part of the story, hopefully." He added, "I knew he was hurt, but I also knew he'd come back from it pretty strong. He likes to use the word 'relentless' a lot." Kawakami noted there "might've been one result of the boos: After thrusting himself to the forefront at the start of his tenure," Joe Lacob over the last few years "has moved out of the main spotlight." He said, "When we first bought the team obviously things were a lot different. It was a turnaround in many regards and it needed a face; the team did. So that was my job whether I liked it or not or whether I wanted it or not, to somewhat be the face of the franchise. And that required being in the public -- to set a culture and objective goals" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 5/31). Meanwhile, Fox Business' Liz Claman on Tuesday noted the Warriors have "gone from the NBA’s 'Bad News Bears' to potential champions in just a few short years thanks in part" to team co-Owner Peter Guber. He said the organization “had a vision and a view, and they put their minds to it." Guber added, "And we got a little lucky as well" ("Countdown to the Closing Bell," Fox Business, 6/2).
