Facility Notes

In N.Y., Ben Rothenberg notes a three-meter aluminum plank atop a video screen in the southwest corner of Court Philippe Chartier at the French Open yesterday "came loose in high winds and fell, ricocheting off an upper walkway before landing in the crowd." It "injured three spectators." Tournament Dir Gilbert Ysern said that an "investigation was beginning." Ysern: "We just believe that, of course, it had something to do with the wind." Rothenberg notes play "stopped for about 30 minutes as spectators were ushered out of sections near the structure and its stability was assessed" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/3).

CHOP 'TIL YOU DROP: In Atlanta, J. Scott Trubey notes the Braves yesterday announced a "new partnership with MillerCoors at the team’s new ballpark in Cobb County that will involve branding of the new Chop House restaurant and bar." The three-level restaurant, bar and lounge in right field of the new SunTrust Park "will be branded the Coors Light Chop House" (AJC.com, 6/2). In Marietta, Ricky Leroux noted the Chop House "will be expanded in the new ballpark to a three-level restaurant with 10,000 square feet of space, including two party decks and a new field-level area that can be rented by large groups" (MDJONLINE.com, 6/2).

ALL FOR ONE: In Cincinnati, Steve Watkins reported Xavier Univ. is investing $25M to "revamp its Cintas Center basketball arena with a renovated club lounge area, a new hospitality area for spectators with pricey seats and a dramatically upgraded WiFi system." Xavier AD Greg Christopher said that the school is "building a new strength and conditioning facility by expanding Cintas Center to the north." Watkins noted this is the "first major renovation" of the venue since it opened in '00 (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/2).
