Lakers Purchase Land In El Segundo For New HQ, Practice Facility, D-League Home

The Lakers have completed the purchase of a five-acre property in El Segundo, Calif., for their new corporate HQ, including a practice facility, a 750-seat exhibition court and offices on the property, which is part of the Elevon at Campus El Segundo development. California-based Morley Builders is the general contractor hired to construct the new facility designed by Detroit-based Rosetti. It is expected to be completed by the spring of '17. The facility will also be home to the NBA D-League L.A. D-Fenders (Lakers). In L.A., Mark Medina noted the property is "located at the northwest corner of Mariposa Avenue and Douglas Street." The Lakers currently practice at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, a facility "shared with the NHL’s Kings and a skating rink open to the public." The El Segundo City Council in April "granted unanimous approval" for the Lakers to build their new HQ (L.A.
