Reds Partner With Procter & Gamble For Second LED Videoboard At GABP

The Reds on Thursday announced that they have partnered with with Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble for a second LED videoboard at Great American Ball Park that will be added in time for the '15 MLB All-Star Game. P&G, a long-time partner with the Reds, is providing financial support for the scoreboard which will also feature some of the company's American brands such as Tide, Charmin and Pampers. Construction is scheduled to begin this week. The new Daktronics LED video display will be installed above the Sun Deck/Moon Deck seats in right field, complementing the existing main videoboard above left field. Approximately 7,500 seats that have limited or obstructed views of the main scoreboard will directly benefit from the new video display (Reds). In Cincinnati, Sydney Murray notes the Reds also "hope to install a large LED video screen" on the franchise's HOF. If approved by the City Planning Commission on June 5, the videoboard "would be used to promote" the Reds, their HOF, the Reds Community Fund, the All-Star Game and "establishments located within The Banks," a mixed-use project being developed on the land between Paul Brown Stadium and GABP. The videoboard, which will remain at the HOF museum "permanently, would weigh 6,900 pounds and be 18.9 feet high and 31.5 feet wide." The Cincinnati Zoning Code "does not permit 'outdoor advertising signs' or 'flashing signs' within the Downtown zoning district." The proposed videoboard is "considered both an outdoor advertising and flashing sign." The sign would "operate during normal business hours." If used at night, the screen will be "dimmed to avoid annoying people living in apartments at The Banks." Sound speakers that are part of the display will "only be used during Reds games, events at The Banks and other special events" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 5/29).
