John Dennis Headed Back To WEEI After Completing Alcohol Rehab Program

Boston-based WEEI-FM morning show co-host John Dennis said that he "plans to return to the airwaves Monday after three weeks of being treated for alcohol addiction," according to Steve Buckley of the BOSTON HERALD. Dennis, who last appeared on the station on April 13, said, "The smartest thing I did was to come out of the alcoholic’s closet, to steal a phrase. The thing that held me back, the thing I was most afraid of, was going public with this and hearing the response and the reaction, or the criticism, whatever. I didn’t know what to expect." He added, "I was blown away and gratified by the positive response. I was anticipating something quite different.” Dennis is "attending an outpatient program at Emerson Hospital." He indicated that he will "continue with the program next week ... while returning to the morning-drive program" he co-hosts with Gerry Callahan and Kirk Minihane. Dennis said that he met Thursday with Callahan and Minihane, plus "the show’s producers and station management, and that 'we’re all the same page'" (BOSTON HERALD, 5/15).
