Mobile Ticketing Company Gametime Closes On $13.3M Venture Capital Funding

S.F.-based mobile ticketing company Gametime has closed on a $13.3M Series A venture capital round, led by Silicon Valley private equity firm Accel Partners and including several prominent sports industry execs. The latest round is inclusive of a $4M funding round of convertible notes Gametime did last fall, and now grants Accel board representation in the company. Also participating in the round are prior investors NBA Kings Managing Partner Vivek Ranadive and Jeff Mallett, a partner in the MLB Giants and co-Owner & Dir of the Whitecaps and English soccer club Derby County FC. Joining in as new investors in Gametime are 76ers and Devils co-Owner David Blitzer, Wasserman Media Group Chair & CEO Casey Wasserman, Draft Founder Jeremy Levine, and Brian Spaly and John Tucker, founders of personalized men's clothing service Trunk Club. The funds will be used for continued expansion for Gametime, which specializes in last-minute, mobile-based ticket purchasing. Blitzer was also an early investor in StubHub, where Gametime Chief Revenue Officer Colin Evans was previously a founding exec. "We're seeing rapidly accelerating growth, and this will allow us to expand our offerings," Evans said. It is one of the largest Series A funding rounds in recent memory for any sort of digital media or technology company, and surpasses the value of prior Series A fundings for Facebook, Twitter, DraftKings, Uber and FanDuel.
