Franchise Notes

In Miami, Barry Jackson noted the Dolphins plan to "celebrate their 50th anniversary" this season. Players during the Dec. 14 "MNF" game against the Giants "will wear 1966 throwback jerseys," and will "wear a 50th anniversary patch on their jerseys" throughout the season. The plans also include a list of the top 50 Dolphins players, "chosen, in no particular order, with voting equally weighted among four groups -- fans, media, all former Dolphins players, and the blue ribbon committee that selects the team’s Ring of Honor." The club in January will "release a coffee table book" titled "Fins at 50" (MIAMI HERALD, 5/9).

FLYIN' HAWAIIAN: In Honolulu, Ferd Lewis noted the Titans have first-round pick QB Marcus Mariota on "10 strategically placed 14-foot-by-48-foot digital billboards" around Nashville. Titans Dir of Marketing Brad McClanahan said that the team drafted Mariota "at something like" 7:23pm CT, and "by about 7:25 p.m. we were getting ready to roll everything out." McClanahan added that the public response to the Mariota campaign "was the biggest he's seen in his 17 years with the franchise." He said that "more than 1,000 Mariota jerseys were sold in the first four days" and the club had, "by far, our best ticket sale last week" (HONOLULU STAR-ADVERTISER, 5/10).

FALLING ROX: In Denver, Woody Paige noted the Rockies "soon will have 400 losses in four-plus seasons" since Dick Monfort took over as Owner, Chair & CEO. Monfort "should send himself down" to the Triple-A PCL Albuquerque Isotopes or, "more fittingly," the Single-A California League Modesto Nuts. Monfort the owner "must fire Monfort the incompetent" (DENVER POST, 5/10).
