Warriors' Lacob Calls Out "Shadowy Creatures" Behind Opposition For New Arena

Warriors co-Owner Joe Lacob "slammed the mysterious financiers behind the opposition to his team's waterfront arena proposal for 'hiding behind the bushes,'" according to Patrick Hoge of the S.F. BUSINESS TIMES. Lacob called the Mission Bay Alliance "a 'rogue group' and vowed that critics will never get control of the proposed Mission Bay development site." The Mission Bay Alliance has said that its "intention is nothing less than to kill" the Warriors $1B plan for an 18,000-seat arena, two office towers and a retail marketplace in S.F. The Alliance "plans a series of land-use legal challenges, which could potentially delay the project for years and block the Warriors from lining up funding for the privately financed project." Its "one ultimate goal is to return the land" to the Univ. of California-S.F. Lacob said, "I don't know who these shadowy creatures are who are trying to represent the interests of UCSF, because they don't." UCSF's administration has said that it is "not working with the Mission Bay Alliance." Lacob: "We've followed the process to a T, so let's just let the chips fall where they may on that. They can try what they want to try" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/6).
