Wake Forest Unveils New Nike-Designed Football Uniforms Honoring School's History

Wake Forest Univ. yesterday unveiled new Nike football uniforms, which feature references to the school's history, campus architecture and Demon Deacon mascot. The black-and-gold uniform has a new number font honoring the school's founding in 1834, as the digits feature angled notches at 18 and 34 degrees. The jersey sleeves have a new pattern drawn from the university shield and the wrought-iron architectural details throughout campus (WFU). In Winston-Salem, Dan Collins notes WFU football coach Dave Clawson "did weigh in on the look" of the uniforms. Clawson said that he "needed help, which he received" from WFU AD Ron Wellman, Assistant AD/Equipment Services Roxann Moody and Football Operations Dir Jordan Jarry, among others. Clawson: "There were a lot of opinions and a lot of ideas. But we certainly wanted to stay true to our colors, and give it a little flair." Collins notes the words "Deacon Tough" are "embroidered on the back of the neckline and the school’s WF logo is found on the hip of the pants." The Demon Deacons "will regularly wear black jerseys with gold trim, along with gold pants, at home, and all white on the road," while the third option will be black jerseys and black pants (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 5/6).
