Poll: Boston Olympics Support Sees Slight Upturn For First Time In Months

Support for holding the '24 Games in Boston "has risen slightly over the last month," according to poll results cited by Curt Nickisch of WBUR-FM. The poll, conducted by The MassINC Polling Group for Boston-based NPR station WBUR, showed that 40% of registered voters in the area "support the idea." That figure is up from 36% in March, "halting a downward slide." While 50% of those polled still opposed hosting the Games, the 10-point advantage the opponents now have "has shrunk from a 16-point margin last month." Also, for the "first time since January, more voters in the city of Boston support the Olympic bid than oppose it, 47-41." It is "still a long way from the strong backing that the private organizing group behind the bid, Boston 2024, wants to have built in two years," when the IOC "chooses a host city" (WBUR.org, 4/16).
