MLB Franchise Notes: Manfred Will Not Investigate Angels' Handling Of Hamilton Info

In L.A., Mike DiGiovanna notes MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred yesterday "indicated that he will not investigate whether the Angels released confidential information" about LF Josh Hamilton. Manfred: "I have no reason to believe the Angels did anything inappropriate." He added, "Confidentiality is an important component of the drug program. Unfortunately, the more people that know about something, the less likely it is that it's going to stay confidential" (L.A. TIMES, 4/9).

DOING MORE THAN A LITTLE: In S.F., Ann Killion reports nearly 1,000 people have donated almost $35,000 to the GoFundMe site started by the girlfriend of A's P Sean Doolittle, Eireann Dolan, in response to "nasty and homophobic" comments on social media surrounding the team's first LBGT Pride Night. Dolan had "offered to buy tickets for Pride Night from disgruntled fans to donate to the LBGT youth shelter Open Space," and she and Doolittle also "offered to match" the funds generated on the site she created. The donations "range from $5 to $1,000 and come from all over the country." The money "will buy as many tickets as Open Space and similar shelters can use." Dolan and Doolittle "will set up transportation to the game for recipients." The leftover money "will be given" to the A's Community Fund to be split among various groups (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/9).

SHAKE IT OFF: In Newark, Mike Vorkunov writes while media and fans "shoot arrows" at Mets GM Sandy Alderson and the rest of the organization, Alderson "is not afraid of a little self-deprecation and at his team's expense." Alderson: "My inclination is not to take things too seriously." Vorkunov notes the jokes can be a "disarming tactic for a very serious man." Alderson is a former marine, the GM who was "crucial in bringing the analytics generation into baseball and was once thought to be and once a potential successor" to former MLB Commissioner Bud Selig (NJ.com, 4/9).
