Thompson Defends Racy Golf Digest Cover, Says She's Comfortable With Image Choice

Golfer Lexi Thompson yesterday defended her controversial Golf Digest cover in which she appears topless, saying she has "more clothes on in that picture than a lot of the girls I go to the beach with." Thompson appeared on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" sporting logos of her two biggest sponsors -- Red Bull on her cap and Puma on her shirt -- and said there has been a "lot of great feedback" about the cover. She said, "I actually have shoes on, I have shorts on and I have a jacket covering me. It’s pretty funny to hear those (negative) comments, but it is a fitness issue. We shot a lot of different looks, but that’s the one they chose. ... I’m very happy with it.” Thompson noted she wanted to appear on the cover “not only to represent myself as a professional athlete and a golfer, but to represent all women athletes in general." She said, "Fitness is a huge part of my life and a huge part of the LPGA tour.” Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade noted David Beckham is the “No. 1 soccer player, not for play but because he took his shirt off every moment he could." Kilmeade: "All these magazines, he doesn’t have his shirt on. But they want you to have a different standard” (“Fox & Friends,” Fox News, 4/7).
