Philadelphia-Area Retailers Hesitant To Build Inventory Around Eagles Players

The Eagles' busy offseason of player moves "has absolutely petrified those in charge of area stores that carry team jerseys," according to Sam Donnellon of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Many Philadelphia retailers have "little inventory" coming in, and "very little going out." A Turnersville, N.J., Sports Authority employee said that the store is "saddled with an inventory of shirts of players no longer with the team." The employee added that the store's district manager "has made it clear" that the store will make "no big buys until we're sure the guys who [Eagles coach Chip Kelly] brought in today are the same ones he will put on the field at summer's end." Donnellon notes Eagles QB Sam Bradford's fate is "of specific concern," as there has been "speculation he would be swapped again" after the team traded for him last month. Kelly has "publicly scoffed at such a notion, but that has done little or nothing to ease the worries of store owners whose inventories are already overloaded with the jerseys of departed Birds." A Modell's store in Cherry Hill, N.J., has two RB DeMarco Murray jerseys "displayed prominently in its window and a healthy supply in all sizes inside the store, selling for $100." But Donnellon writes, "When I asked a worker on the floor whether they were getting Bradford shirts anytime soon, she eyed me suspiciously, asked why I wanted to know, and when I told her it was for a story, referred me to an 800 number" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 4/3).
