Under Armour Signs Univ. Of Cincinnati, Replacing Adidas In Reported $5M Annual Deal

The Univ. of Cincinnati on Thursday announced that its athletic teams "will switch outfitters from adidas to Under Armour, effective July 1," according to Tom Groeschen of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources said that it "will be much larger" than UC's current contract with adidas, in which the school annually receives a base of $1.05M in "equipment and apparel allowance for its sports teams -- plus $525,000 in cash." A previous report said that UC "will be getting" as much as $5M per year with UA. As part of the multiyear agreement, UA will "exclusively design and supply the footwear, apparel and equipment for training and gameday uniforms for each of UC's 19 men's and women's varsity athletic teams" beginning in the '15-16 season. UA also "plans to integrate UC into its wide-ranging storytelling efforts, including global marketing campaigns, social media initiatives, in-store promotions and grassroots activations." UC football coach Tommy Tuberville said the move is a "huge advance" financially. Tuberville: "Our past relationship with adidas was good, but Under Armour came in and said, 'We want you. You're going to be ours no matter what.'" Groeschen notes Cincinnati is UA's "15th Division 1 all-school partnership" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 4/3).
