Security Issues: Hornets Launch Campaign To Promote MKG For All-Defense Team

Hornets F Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a candidate for the NBA's all-defensive team, and the franchise has created a PR campaign for him in which he is the "chief defense officer" of a fictional company called MKG Security, according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. The campaign has a companion website that "plays off the theme while highlighting on-court credentials." The effort "serves as an encore to a PR campaign the team created a year ago" for C Al Jefferson. The team "sent out cans of paint with Jefferson’s image as well as brushes and other supplies touting Jefferson as an all-NBA candidate for his play near the basket" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/2). SPORTING NEWS' Scott Rafferty noted the Hornets have "gone all in on the campaign, creating a fully functioning site" for MKG Security, as well as a "quirky commercial to make a case" for Kidd-Gilchrist. Each voter also will get a "care package ... featuring a safe and sign post for MKG Security" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 4/2).
