GOLF.com's Josh Sens reported Tiger Woods "has been tapped to redesign a golf course in Beijing, China, a layout that will become the flagship in a constellation of a dozen private clubs that will provide members access to all courses in the cluster." The project marks Woods’ "first foray into Asia as a course designer." Sources said that Woods agreed to a "two-course deal that will pay him a staggering" $16.5M. The deal "will be announced in Beijing on April 23" (GOLF.com, 3/27).
ON THE TURNING AWAY: In Indianapolis, Curt Cavin reported Indianapolis Motor Speedway is considering "changing the Turn 2 viewing space." IMS officials have local developer Browning Investments "exploring options for the current suites" built in '73. It is possible the project, if it materializes, "includes a hotel, a condominium, meeting space and a restaurant." IMS President Doug Boles "expects an executive summary from Browning to review 'in the next couple of weeks'" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 3/29).
ENERGY EFFICIENT: In Georgia, Ricky Leroux reported the Braves "are working to increase sustainability at their new ballpark in Cobb County, using new technology and green initiatives to help decrease SunTrust Park’s impact on the environment." Braves Exec VP/Business Operations Mike Plant said that work "is now underway to install a 30,000-gallon irrigation tank on the site of the new stadium." He said that other sustainability efforts "include energy efficient lighting." Leroux noted the Braves want SunTrust Park "to be a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified building" (MARIETTA DAILY JOURNAL, 3/29).
A BUCK FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: A MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL editorial stated the newspaper supports building a new Bucks arena, but not "at any cost.” Bucks co-Owners Marc Lasry and Wes Edens “should do more.” The editorial: “Squeeze the owners as hard as possible to see if more change will fall out of their pockets and insist that all levels of government contribute in some fashion. Then cut a deal” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/28).
