FSU Readies Renovations For Aging Doak Campbell Stadium To Be Completed By '16

Florida State Univ.'s BOT this month "unanimously approved" issuing up to $85M in bonds to pay for an anticipated $79.5M project at 65-year-old Doak Campbell Stadium, which would add premium outdoor seating, "make structural repairs, repaint the stadium and ... update sky box suites," according to Jim Henry of the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT. The 6,000-seat club section "is scheduled to be built in the south end zone" in time for the '16 season. Construction "is expected to begin" this July "and be completed" by August '16. The indoor-outdoor section "will cover four levels and allows fans to experience game day from different vantage points without losing sight of the field." It "will also provide amenities that fans want." The first phase of construction in July "will include a pair of elevator and stair towers in the south end zone." More involved structural repairs and repainting of the stadium "will start in November" at a cost of $24M. The new additions are "expected to help rejuvenate a proud but worn stadium." Other discussions "have included replacing the 7-year-old video board in the north end zone" (TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, 3/21).
