Under Armour Founder, Chair & CEO Kevin Plank appeared on CNBC’s “Mad Money” last night, with host Jim Cramer saying UA “isn’t an apparel stock anymore, it’s a tech play in charged cotton clothing.” Plank said the reason the company has been able to branch out into wearable technology and fitness tracking is “because we have amazing shirts and shoes business,” and UA has been able to “build this new layer of adding digital to our business that’s giving us this new complexion that presents us ready for the next decade of growth.” Plank: “The key as a company is we’re malleable” (“Mad Money,” CNBC, 3/11).

JIM RATS: Maui Jim Sunglasses has taken over title sponsorship of the Maui Invitational college basketball tournament. The event had been sponsored by EA Sports since '01. It will now be known as the Maui Jim Maui Invitational (Maui Jim).

SAFE & SECURE: Minnesota-based Securian Financial Group has signed an eight-year deal to be a sponsor of the independent American Association St. Paul Saints. Securian will get naming rights to The Securian Club, the upscale club level facility of CHS Field. The club seats more than 260 guests indoors and another 50 on its outdoor deck facing the ballpark (Securian).
