Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard Undergoes Bypass Surgery Following Monday Heart Attack

Iowa State AD JAMIE POLLARD last night "underwent bypass surgery" following a heart attack he suffered on Monday, according to Bobby La Gesse of the AMES TRIBUNE. The heart attack occurred as Pollard "watched his daughters compete in a girls’ high school track meet" at Northern Iowa Univ. Pollard in a statement said that he is "thankful for the support he’s received." ISU football coach PAUL RHOADS said, "The fact I heard right back from him tells me he has his phone in his hands. He is probably in pretty good condition and working too hard and doing too much at the time.” Rhoads added that the 50-year-old Pollard "was alert and stable." Rhoads: “He was embarrassed that he had to be cared for like that. That is the sign of a leader of when he feels that way that people have to pay special attention to him instead of him being able to be out front and lead.” ISU President STEVEN LEATH appointed Senior Associate AD DAVID HARRIS as acting AD (AMES TRIBUNE, 3/11). Pollard last night tweeted, "Cyclone Nation - thank you for your thoughts & prayers. Just going into bypass surgery now. Go Cyclones!" (TWITTER.com, 3/10).
