Media Notes

Tim Brando yesterday on his Facebook page announced his SiriusXM show "will be ending, for now." SiriusXM will air the final episode of "The Tim Brando Show" on April 30. Brando, who works for Fox on a variety of sports, wrote of his show that began in '01, "During my days at CBS, I was primarily working on weekends, mostly in the studio rather than out in the field. Balancing the world of live sports television with a daily national radio show is at best, taxing" (FACEBOOK.com, 3/10).

GO WITH THE FLO: Following an $8M investment from Causeway Media Partners, the online streaming company Flocasts is changing its name to FloSports and plans to focus deeper into the fitness, track and wrestling genres. The company streams 25,000 hours of live events per year and has 980,000 videos in its library. FloSports expects to attract more than 10 million unique visitors per month in '15 (John Ourand, Staff Writer)

FINDING THEIR SPOT: On Long Island, Neil Best wrote the Big East is in its second season with Fox/FS1, and "much like the NHL's marriage to NBC, some visibility undeniably is lost when a league leaves the ESPN firmament." But there also is "something to be said for being a relatively bigger fish in a smaller, more appreciative pond." Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman said of Fox/FS1, "As equity develops in their dial position, we think viewers will continue to find them." Ackerman "likened the Fox partnership to the mutually beneficial role the original Big East played in the early years of ESPN" (NEWSDAY, 3/9).

CAN YOU SEE US NOW?
In L.A., Bill Plaschke asked with the Dodgers' TWC SportsNet LA carriage standoff entering its second season, why would the Dodgers and Time Warner Cable not "announce, right now, that they are selling 25 games this season to a local over-the-air TV station so that every Dodgers fan can stay connected during the cable wars and beyond?" The importance of the connection between a community and its baseball team "doesn't seem to be understood by new Dodgers ownership" (L.A. TIMES, 3/8).
