League Notes

Attorney Gene Egdorf, who represents the PGA Tour caddies' lawsuit against the sanctioning body, said that the Tour "plans to request a change of venue" from the U.S. District Court in S.F. to the Middle District in Florida. Egdorf said that he filed the lawsuit in Northern California "because the Tour has offices" in S.F., while the court has a "history with similar cases, like last year’s O’Bannon vs. the NCAA." He estimated that the PGA Tour will "take three to four weeks before filing the motion" (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 2/23).

GET A GRIP: In Boston, Alex Reimer writes the way the NFL has handled Deflategate "has been a disaster." Deflategate "isn’t a league-wide issue." Its "prevalence in the news cycle solely stains" Patriots Owner Robert Kraft, who is "arguably one of the most respected powerbrokers in all of professional sport." NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has "stayed in power throughout his tumultuous year so far." But he "may not last much longer if he continues to cross the man who might be most responsible for his survival" (BOSTON HERALD, 2/24).

ANALYZE THIS
: YAHOO SPORTS' Ryan Lambert wrote the NHL and tech partner SAP seem to "have put very little thought into many aspects" of last weekend's launch of the advanced stats section of NHL.com. But the league will "probably say its stats engine is all being rolled out over time, and that much is true." The NHL probably "would have been better off not rushing to get this done in the middle of the season." If they were to wait and unveil it next October, they could "make the thing actually usable and intelligible at launch by letting the real nerds get an early look and tell you what you're doing wrong" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 2/23).
