Cowboys Heading Back To Oxnard For Training Camp; Jets Still Looking For Locale

The Cowboys "plan to return to California in July for training camp and are close to finalizing a one-year contract with the City of Oxnard," according to sources cited by Brandon George of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn said that the Cowboys "are expected to spend three weeks" there for training camp this year. Sources said that the contract "carries a two-year option for the Cowboys that could have the club back in Oxnard" in '16 and '17. George noted this will be the "10th time the Cowboys have held training camp in Oxnard." Meanwhile, the Cowboys "open their new practice facility" and HQ in Frisco, Texas, in '16 and then are "expected to split training camp between California and Texas." The "primary concern the Cowboys have had in negotiations with Oxnard for a new deal has been a lot adjacent to their practice fields that has primarily been used for parking" (DALLASNEWS.com, 2/19).

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE: On Long Island, Kimberley Martin cites a source as saying that Farmingdale State College "has been ruled out" as the site of the Jets' training camp this summer despite initially being on the team's "short list." Though the Long Island location itself "wasn't the issue, logistics were." Because the school "doesn't have a football team, there aren't any football fields on campus." There also "wouldn't be enough time for the Jets to get the necessary pieces in place for the start of training camp." That leaves SUNY Cortland, where the Jets have held several recent training camps, and the team's practice facility in Florham Park, N.J., as the "final two options" (NEWSDAY, 2/20).
