Braves Won't Use PSLs At New Park, But Number Of Premium Seats Up Significantly

The Braves next month will begin the sale of season tickets for their new ballpark that is slated to open in '17, and while the team "won't have PSLs," it will "convert thousands of prime, close-to-the-field seats into 'premium' tickets that include amenities, require multiyear commitments and carry sharply higher prices," according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. Braves Exec VP/Sales & Marketing Derek Schiller indicated that ticket sales will be held in a "'preview center' that will open in mid- to late-March" in an office building "overlooking the stadium construction site." He said around 4,000 premium seats "will range from a few hundred dollars to less than $100 per game." The number of premium seats at SunTrust Park "will increase tenfold from the 400 at Turner Field." Schiller said, "There are roughly 41,000 seats in SunTrust Park. What we’re talking about is having approximately 10 percent of our seats as premium seats. There’s still approximately 37,000 seats available outside of premium, many of which have what I would consider to be premier locations, but (without) amenities beyond just the seat itself. We’ll have a variety of different pricing levels ... so that something is available for anyone." Tucker noted the Braves' 150 "most exclusive seats ... will increase an unspecified amount from current prices, which already top $300 per game." Those seats are in the SunTrust Club, located in the "first three rows directly behind the plate." There will be "three club areas connected to seating sections" at the new ballpark -- two in the lower bowl and one in the middle bowl. Dugout-level seats "will have access to an enclosed air-conditioned space" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 2/14).
