Stats LLC Continues To Acquire Assets, Buying North Carolina-Based Automated Insights

Stats LLC has acquired Automated Insights, a North Carolina-based provider of natural language generation technology. The deal is the second announced acquisition for Stats this week and third overall since being bought itself last year by Vista Equity Partners. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Automated Insights' tech, which automatically generates news stories and narratives from raw data, will be blended with Stats' existing statistical and data feeds to create a deeper content offering. Automated Insights will remain headquartered in Durham, N.C., and will operate as a Stats subsidiary under its existing brand name. Company Founder & CEO Robbie Allen will become a senior member of Stats management. Stats CEO Gary Walrath said Automated Insights, along with prior acquisitions The Sports Network and Bloomberg Sports, was part of a target list last year when going through its sale process with Vista Equity. "These companies were all very high on our target list of where we wanted to take Stats, and Vista has been good to their word and allowing it to happen," Walrath said. "Vista has been a tremendously active owner and operator and not just an investor. And with Automated Insights, we think this is going to be a boon for content localization and building up editorial resources for where we're only currently offering data."
