CAA Sports, Roc Nation Sports Announce End Of Planned Two-Year Partnership

CAA Sports and Roc Nation Sports yesterday announced that their planned two-year partnership has come to an end. A joint statement issued by the two agencies read in part, "They have enjoyed their time as partners and have achieved many successes together. Going forward, they will each focus their efforts on their own business opportunities and clientele.” The two companies first announced their joint venture in April '13. Among the clients they have represented together are Mariners 2B Robinson Cano, Thunder F Kevin Durant and Giants WR Victor Cruz (Liz Mullen, Staff Writer). In N.Y., Claire Atkinson notes under the partnership, Roc Nation Sports "took the lead in getting marketing and sponsorship deals," while CAA "handled the athletes’ player contracts." It is "unclear what led to the split." But sources suggested that Jay Z’ "growing sports agency had become too competitive with CAA" (N.Y. POST, 2/11). The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Rebecca Sun noted the athletes "are co-represented by CAA and Roc Nation." It is "possible that situation could continue, with the two agencies splitting or sharing on- and off-field dealmaking duties." Roc Nation "does not have baseball agents, while CAA Sports does not have a boxing division" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 2/10).
