NFLPA Setting Up Website For Exec Dir Candidates To Distribute Platforms To Players

NFLPA President Eric Winston said the union will be setting up a website for candidates running for exec dir so they can distribute their platforms to all players prior to the election. Winston: "Under labor law, everybody has a right to be heard. The candidates who are running for executive director can submit a platform, no longer than six pages, and we are producing a website.” Winston said the website should be up and running by early next week. The election will be held March 15 in Hawaii. Under the NFLPA constitution, the exec dir must stand for election every three years. This year, two candidates -- former NFLer Sean Gilbert and Michigan-based attorney James Acho -- have officially declared that they will challenge standing Exec Dir DeMaurice Smith for the position. Acho said, "I have already submitted my platform to Eric Winston. So, absolutely, that platform will be on the website that can be accessed by the players so they can learn where I stand on certain issues." Gilbert did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether he will be submitting his platform. Gilbert has already sent out his platform to active players and agents. Gilbert announced his candidacy by publishing a book, “The $29 Million ‘Tip’ How Roger Goodell Earned His Big Payday,” in September '13.
