Stop In Nevada: Foley Prefers State Name Over City For Prospective Vegas-Based NHL Team

Fidelity National Financial Chair William Foley yesterday said that he "prefers Nevada over Las Vegas" as the official name of his prospective NHL team, according to Alan Snel of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. He said Nevada “has a good catch to it," and is "more inclusive." Foley, along with former NBA Kings co-Owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, plan to "launch a season ticket deposit drive on Feb. 10." The investment group is "shooting for at least 10,000 deposits." The MGM-AEG arena scheduled to open in April '16 is "outside the city limits of Las Vegas" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2/4). Foley said that a ticket-sales staff "has been hired and promised that specifics regarding how to put down a deposit will be made available in the next few days." SI.com's Allan Muir noted Foley has already made a "significant commitment to raise awareness in the area," as the ownership group "bought local air time during Sunday's Super Bowl" for an ad that promotes the ticket drive (SI.com, 2/3).
