Former Rutgers AD Pernetti Leaving NYC FC To Run IMG College Multimedia Business

IMG College is putting former Rutgers AD TIM PERNETTI in charge of its multimedia business, which includes the rights to more than 90 colleges and conferences. Pernetti, who resigned from Rutgers in April '13, will be President of Multimedia at IMG College. He will report to both IMG College President & Chair BEN SUTTON and WME/IMG COO JASON LUBLIN. Pernetti for the last 17 months had been chief business officer of NYC FC, which is scheduled to debut in MLS this year. In a release from the soccer club, Pernetti said the emotional draw back to college athletics motivated him to make the move. “With college sports being my true passion and such a core part of my make-up, this awesome opportunity to join the team at WME/IMG was impossible to refuse, particularly at this natural exit point as New York City FC embarks on the next stage of its development,” Pernetti said. He joins IMG College at a time when the company has been seeking a president to oversee the entire business. IMG College offered the president’s position to ESPN's BURKE MAGNUS in December, but so far ESPN is holding Magnus to his contract, which runs into next year. Pernetti’s hiring is not expected to preclude IMG College from pursuing an overall president in the future, if the company decided to. Pernetti will begin his job with IMG College in March. “Tim’s a true expert in collegiate athletics and multimedia rights,” Sutton said. “Combine that with his entrepreneurial approach and outstanding leadership abilities and he’s the perfect fit for this role.” While at Rutgers, Pernetti led the school's move into the Big Ten, but his alma mater came under scrutiny when men's basketball coach MIKE RICE was accused of abusive behavior toward his players and was fired. Pernetti resigned after a four-year run in the aftermath of the Rice firing. Prior to Rutgers, Pernetti had various jobs as a network exec with CBS College Sports and ABC Sports.

GLICK GLICK BOOM: NYC FC announced this morning that TOM GLICK has been promoted to President of the club. A veteran of 25 years in sports management, Glick had been Chief Commercial & Operating Officer of EPL club Manchester City. He previously served as President & CEO of English soccer club Derby County, and has also had roles in the NBA and Minor League Baseball. Glick will oversee all aspects of NYC FC’s day-to-day business.
