Denver, Commerce City To Share Hosting Responsibilities For '16 MLS All-Star Game

MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be in Denver tomorrow to announce that the Rapids "will host" the '15 All-Star Game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, according to Daniel Boniface of the DENVER POST. Commerce City, Colo., Dir of Communications & Government Affairs Michelle Halstead said that the event "would be dually hosted by Denver and Commerce City, with activities happening both in downtown Denver and near Dick's Sporting Goods Park." It is the "second time the Rapids will host the event," as Dick's Sporting Goods Park was the site of the '07 match between the MLS All-Stars and Scottish Premier League club Celtic. A date for the match "was not immediately announced, but the game has typically been played in late July or early August" (DENVER POST, 1/20). SI's Brian Straus, regarding a possible opponent for the MLS All-Stars, tweeted, "Gotta be vs. Arsenal, right? Source says opp not decided" (TWITTER.com, 1/16). EPL club Arsenal and the Rapids are both owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (THE DAILY).
