Rockets GM Morey's "Crass" Tweet Raises Eyebrows, Shows Lack Of Discretion

Rockets GM Daryl Morey yesterday answered some questions from his Twitter followers, and while a query about whether working in basketball had killed his love for the sport was "harmless," his response to that question "was hardly what you'd expect," according to Greg Rajan of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Morey, who was on a flight to the NBA D-League Showcase in Santa Cruz, Calif., at the time, wrote, "No, it is like being a gynecologist, you don't get sick of it" (CHRON.com, 1/14).

IN POOR TASTE: In DC, Marissa Payne wrote Morey proved he "doesn't think before he tweets" and/or he is "kind of gross." Morey's tweet might have been "just a bad joke, perhaps borrowed from an old episode of 'Beavis and Butthead.'" It "might be funny in the former scenario, but from Morey, it comes off as just plain crass." Payne: "In the grand scheme of things, one likely regrettable and arguably grody tweet isn’t a big deal, but when viewed as part of a larger problem (sexism in the sports industry), it doesn’t help anyway" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 1/14). YAHOO SPORTS' Kelly Dwyer wrote, "What are you, Daryl, 12?" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 1/14). CSNBAYAREA.com's Ray Ratto wrote, "Elegantly done, Dice. Very elegantly done" (CSNBAYAREA.com, 1/14).
